Mission Statement

Shabda specializes in meditation supplies, primarily Tibetan bells and altar-size statues, as well as fair-trade gifts. We started our company almost 30 years ago with the idea of being a 'cultural bridge'. Our mission remains three-fold:

• help Nepali and Tibetan craftsmen receive a living wage for their products
• make the finest quality meditation bells and supplies available in the West
• facilitate the spread of the ideas and stories of the world's great spiritual traditions

Our criteria for the selection of products are that they be:

• traditional to the culture
• still made in small family groups or co-ops using traditional handicraft methods
• of excellent quality
• able to help us to explain a cultural story or idea
• made with respect to fair trade principles
• made in the most environmentally friendly manner possible
• a means of financial support for a craftsman/family in need
• of proven benefit to the Western consumer
